A 13-year-old girl was forced into child marriage in Tamil Nadu.
(Representative image: PTI)In an alleged case of child marriage, a 13-year-old girl was forced to marry her 28-year-old uncle in Tamil Nadu's Theni district.
The girl, a student of class 8, was brought from her home in Trichy where she had been attending online classes since the coronavirus crisis forced schools to shut down.The girls maternal uncle, Arul Pandy (28), was engaged to be married.
However, his to-be-wife eloped with another man.
When Arul informed this to his sister Maheshwari, she decided to get her daughter married off to her brother.The girl was forcefully taken to Theni from Trichy and married off to Arul Pandy.The locals in the area said that they tried to register a complaint on 1098 helpline number but there was no response.
