The campaign to boycott Chinese products following the violent face-off at Galwan Valley in Ladakh continues in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.Located in a valley beside the Subansiri river, Daporijo is the capital of Upper Subansiri district, which also shares a border with China.
The district had an import business of Rs 10 lakh per month from China.Following the Galwan clash, locals mutually decided to boycott Chinese products.
This is when low-cost goods from China flooded markets in the district.
Made in India products have taken over now. From sellers to consumers, profits have plummeted and prices have gone up but people are not complaining. It has almost been two months since Chinese products were boycotted.
Customers and the Old Market Welfare Association jointly boycott Chinese products for two months.
Earlier, Chinese products were easily accessible and we got around 70-80 per cent margin.
Our profit is 10-15 per cent when we sell Indian products.
But we have decided to sell only Indian products.
That's our motto," said Nyaluk Doni, President of the New Market Association.Products imported from China included alcohol, cosmetic items, cigarettes, toys. The average monthly purchase of Chinese products in the border area was worth Rs 10 lakh and sellers enjoyed a margin of at least 50 per cent, but it is all history for now.The Chinese products were cheaper but we banned them.
We do not regret it.
This is the least I could do for my country," a teenager told India Today. The banning has been so strict that along with sellers, buyers also have been following it.Doni Bage, a local, said, "We always try to buy Indian products because we have completely boycotted Chinese goods.
You won't find a single Chinese product in the Upper Subhansiri district.Another resident, Yajum Nungnum, said, "Whenever I go to buy something, I check if a product is made in Chinese.
If it's Chinese, I do not buy as that would mean investing our country's money in a nation that is against us.
