BANGKOK: Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc resigned on Tuesday, becoming the most senior member of the government to step down after a series of high-profile corruption scandals for which he was held responsible.
The language of the statement highly suggested that he was forced to step down.
The judgment Communist Party blamed him for infractions and misbehavior by officials under his control while PM, the federal government said on Tuesday.
An official statement released in state media said he bore political obligation as the countrys top executive for serious scandals including his subordinates, consisting of two deputy PMs.
Phuc was PM from 2016 to 2021.
