(Reuters)The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a man, and seized 2.7 kg of bud (curated marijuana) hidden in an air compressor machine from Delhi airport, officials said.We had to cut out the machine to recover the haul, they said.
The consignment, sent from the US, was to be collected by C Gidwani, who was apprehended by the police on September 18.The payment for the drug consignment was made through bitcoins.
According to officials, the arrested man, a resident of Lucknow, had contacted the consignor through Instagram.On basis of specific information, a team of the NCB, Delhi Zonal Unit, had seized a parcel sent to India from the US via DHL Express couriers in Delhi on August 31.
The parcel contained 2.7 kg of premium quality marijuana.
Necessary digital evidence was also seized.During interrogation, Gidwani admitted that he used to import such parcels on a regular basis for the last one and a half years for himself, and for distribution to his friends.
He used to order the drugs from the US through Instagram or Wickr and the payments were made through bitcoins.
He also revealed that he used to get charas and marijuana from suppliers in Delhi and Bengaluru.A further investigation is underway.
