(Photo: Twitter / @visrane)Goa health minister, Vishwajit Rane, said late Saturday that he inspected and commissioned the South Goa district hospital as a coronavirus treatment facility with an initial capacity of 150 beds.We shall be moving towards 250-300 beds in a phased manner and then ramping it up 400 beds.
If required, we can take it up to 566 beds, Rane tweeted.The new facility at Margao in South Goa has been set up in the wake of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the state.Till date, Coronavirus patients in the state were being treated at the ESI Hospital in South Goas Margao, the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) near North Goas Panaji, and the Sub-District Hospital in South Goas Ponda.The government has recruited 70 people for handling patients at the facility, where high flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) machines and ventilators have been installed with an aim to make it a high dependence unit, the health minister said, adding that quality and nutritious meals will be provided to patients along with housekeeping services.In another tweet, Rane wrote, With stringent protocols in place, we have started taking patient admissions and shifting of patients from ESIC and Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital.
Team Goa is working persistently towards intensifying our fight against Covid-19.Till Saturday, Goa reported 28,022 coronavirus cases and 342 deaths.Meanwhile, the total coronavirus cases in India topped 54 lakh with a single-day spike of 92,605 new infections in the last 24 hours.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday morning, India recorded 1,133 death, pushing the toll to 86,752.
