NEW DELHI: It wasn’t quite a Monday for the bulls on Dalal Street, as volatility gripped the market, leaving them high and dry! The message of the market was loud and clear: We are in the range and let’s respect that range.

The SP BSE Sensex slipped 221 points from day’s high to end at 35,483, up just 40 points.

For NSE's Nifty50 pack, the 10,800 level remained elusive, as the index settled 19.30 points higher at 10,786. Here's a look at the top newsmakers of Monday's session:Avenue Supermarts hits all-time highAvenue Supermarts, the owner of D-Mart, hit a fresh all-time high of Rs 1,619.95 in intraday trade, driving its market capitalisation beyond Rs 1 lakh crore.

The stock ended at Rs 1,593.80 apiece on BSE, up 0.05 per cent.

Interesting highfliersShares of Alembic Pharma hit upper circuit of 20 per cent after the company received USFDA nod for bupropion hydrochloride tablets.

The drug is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder.

The stock settled at Rs 521.25 apiece on BSE, up 19.87 per cent.

Andrew Yule ended nearly 18 per cent higher at Rs 30.20 apiece on BSE after reports came in that the company may be transferred to the Special National Investment Fund (SNIF) to meet the Sebi's minimum 25 per cent public shareholding norm. Stocks in oversold/overbought zoneTechnical indicator RSI (Relative Strength Index) showed Manpasand Beverages, IVRCL and Kwality have slipped into the oversold territory, while Central Bank entered the overbought zone. Vedanta acquires Electrosteel SteelsMetal and mining giant Vedanta has acquired the management control of debt-laden Electrosteel Steels.

In March, Vedanta was declared as successful resolution applicant by the committee of creditors (CoC) for Electrosteel Steels under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

Shares of the company settled at Rs 245.75 apiece on BSE, down 0.16 per cent. Key Sensex moversBharti Airtel (up over 3 per cent), ITC (up 0.49 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki India (up nearly 1 per cent) contributed the most to help index close in the green.

Other contributors included IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma and Axis Bank. Most active stocksPNB, PC Jeweller and Suzlon Energy were among the most active stocks in terms of volume while Sun Pharma, RIL and PC Jeweller were most active in terms of value. Put/Call writingOn the options front, maximum Put open interest stood at 10,600 followed by 10,700 while maximum Call open interest was at 11,000 followed by 10,900.

There was Put writing at 10,800 and 10,700 levels and Call writing at 10,900 and then 11,100 levels. Spurt in open interestUBL saw the biggest jump in open interest at 22.79 per cent, followed by Godrej Industries (22.42 per cent) and Pidilite Industries (15.27 per cent).
