NEW DELHI: Making a sharp turnaround, domestic equity indices ended 318 points higher at 34,663 on Thursday, with Bharti Airtel (up 4 per cent) being the top gainer and Tata Motors (down 7 per cent) the worst laggard. The broader Nifty50 index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 83.50 points, or 80 per cent, higher at 10,513, with 34 constituents ending in the green and 16 in the red. Here's a lowdown on key movers and shakers of Thursday's session: GAIL Q4 net jumps fourfoldOil gas major GAIL reported nearly fourfold jump in net profit at Rs 1,021 crore for March quarter against Rs 260 crore profit in the same quarter last year.

However, the numbers were lower than Rs 1,262 crore estimates by analysts in an ETNOW poll.

The stock ended 5.06 per cent lower at Rs 306.80 apiece on BSE. Damani sells 50L D-Mart sharesAvenue Supermarts' promoter Radhakishan Damani sold 50 lakh shares in the company via block deal, news reports said.

Damani had earlier announced that he will sell up to 1 per cent stake by June 14 to meet minimum public shareholding (MPS) norms.

The stock ended 3.34 per cent higher at Rs 1404.20 apiece on BSE. NSE NOW faces disruptionNSE NOW software was shut for brokers and sub brokers on Thursday, as it faced a major technical glitch during trading hours.

NSE NOW stands for Neat on Web.

However, an NSE spokesperson later said there was no disruption in the trading system.

Notable among them were Aban Offshore, Ambuja Cements and Castrol India.

On the other hand, 13 securities hit 52-week highs. Most active stocksJP Associates, Reliance Communications and Tata Motors were the most active stocks in terms of volume while SBI, Infosys and ONGC emerged most active stocks in terms of value. Bearish crossover for NiftyTechnical indicator MACD or moving average convergence divergence showed bearish crossover on Nifty.

When the MACD slips below the signal line, it gives a bearish signal on the charts, indicating that the price of the security/index may experience a downward trend or vice-versa.Spurt in open interestJet Airways witnessed the biggest spike in open interest at 38.26 per cent, followed by ONGC (33.22 per cent) and GAIL (32.89 per cent).
